Kady Cross may be a new name, but she has already cut her chops quite successfully writing historical and paranormal romance as Kathryn Smith. The Girl in the Steel Corset is her teen romance book, but it is also a steampunk adventure story. If you want museum-robbing automata, cowboys in Victorian London, half-machine people, and an evil plot, Kady Cross will keep you turning the pages.
In 1897 England, sixteen-year-old Finley Jayne has no one…except the “thing” inside her.
When a young lord tries to take advantage of Finley, she fights back. And wins. But no normal Victorian girl has a darker side that makes her capable of knocking out a full-grown man with one punch….
Only Griffin King sees the magical darkness inside her that says she’s special, says she’s one of them. The orphaned duke takes her in from the gaslit streets against the wishes of his band of misfits: Emily, who has her own special abilities and an unrequited love for Sam, who is part robot; and Jasper, an American cowboy with a shadowy secret.
Griffin’s investigating a criminal called The Machinist, the mastermind behind several recent crimes by automatons. Finley thinks she can help—and finally be a part of something, finally fit in.
But The Machinist wants to tear Griff’s little company of strays apart, and it isn’t long before trust is tested on all sides. At least Finley knows whose side she’s on—even if it seems no one believes her.

A few weeks ago, Harlequin sent me an ARC of this book and I’ve decided to pass it on to one of you lucky folks. Entries close Friday at Noon EDT. There may be a delay in announcing the winner as I am going to my niece’s graduation that day, but I don’t know what time it starts or how long it will be. But entries close at noon.
Oh, and let’s keep it US and Canada only, okay? Thanks.
You can enter up to three ways (but tell me which you do!):
- Following our Twitter feed (@steampunkcom) counts as 1 entry.
- Liking this site’s Facebook page counts as 1 entry.
- Tweeting about this giveaway counts as 1 entry.
Please let me know which you do (with appropriate info so I can check to make sure we’re all behaving ourselves) in the comments below.
Thanks and good luck!
Update: Kady Cross has graciously offered to send a signed bookplate to the winner, making for a very special ARC indeed!
Update 2: Now closed to entries, but I won’t get a chance to pick the winner until sometime tonight as I have parental stuff to do this afternoon.
Update 3: We have a winner! Heatherzilla won with her entry from tweeting about the giveaway! Heather, I’ll send you an email shortly to get your mailing address. Thanks to everyone for entering. With luck, I’ll have another giveaway sometime soon.
