  1. Paul says:

    For Glory!

  2. Commander in Chief of the Royal Forces says:

We claim this corset in the name of our Empress! To battle, men! FOR THE GLORY EMPRESS!

  3. Grandmaster Strategist of the Empire says:

This time, we aren’t holding anything back! Prepare yourself!

  4. Supreme Driver of Royal Bus Fleet says:

Once I finish this run to Tuscon, I am heading over there to drop off more voters!

  5. John J. Gray says:

Kind of sucks that this turned a popularity contest instead of an writing contest.

If you do any more writing contests I hope they aren’t done the same way as this.

Good luck with future things though, steampunk.com

  6. Jörg Mowinckel says:

I echo the thoughts of John J. Gray. But this is an internet poll. Let’s just be thankful that this hasn’t turned out like most internet polls where Hitler has 90% of the votes…

  7. The Empire's Finest Hatsmith says:

I will make a hat for all that vote! All will be green with envy over our glorious hats!

  8. Catalyst says:

Vote tally should be turned off until the contest ends.

  9. The Tiny Ghost Of The Empress' Hnadmaiden says:

Internet polls are always difficult, you can never tell whether the votes are honest or not.
It’s good to help out a friend, though.

  10. Technician, 2nd Class, Her Royal Engineers says:

The next one should either have a judging panel or blind voting. That way it doesn’t just become a contest of ‘who has the most friends’.

    For now, though…

Onward to victory! For the Empress!

  11. John J. Gray says:

The problem I have is, how many people read the stories and voted from what they liked more, or just voted for a friend to do a favor.

  12. Alex says:

well, if they wanted to this to based on quality, then they should have used judges.

  13. Lady Jade Summers says:

    Agreed on dissatisfaction with voting.

I legitimately like “Dana stood at the edge more,” but I probably would have voted for it anyway just to be in opposition to all these followers blindly voting and overwhelming superior stories for the entire contest. It comes down to whoever has more friends or cheats better. The actual quality of the writing is just a mere detail in the way.

  14. Catalyst says:

That’s what i’m saying. If the vote tally is off then at least it’ll leave it up in the air so that voting can’t be spammed everywhere. I don’t think the moderators care though, as it’s just free advertisement for them. If they do, they haven’t shown any concern for it thus far.

  15. Mistress Kitty says:

I dislike that this has become a popularity contest instead of a contest based on the quality of the works present.

  16. Katey Springle Lempka says:

I posted the poll to all my social networks, but I have, from the start, asked people to *read* the stories, and if they really liked the other one better, to vote for it. Now, I can’t say for certain that everyone did that, but I asked them to.

I think our host here has done his best, I think he just didn’t realize what a beast any kind of internet poll is to manage. I mean, he did switch to only allowing one vote per IP on the second day.

In any event, it’s been fun to get so much feedback from so many people, and I intend to keep working on my story, as I’ve had lots of clamoring for More more more… Which is really the most any author can hope for.

And if any of you other writers aren’t already on Google+, come and find me (I’m the only person with my name). There are several excellent communities for writers, with all kinds of hints, tips, and camaraderie.

  17. Anon says:

Seems like ‘Dana stood at the edge…’ Is using some kind of automated program – judging from the fact their votes only seem to rise as soon as Submerged even gets close.

  18. Alex says:

Uh… We’re not voting… Some one is just racking up the votes on both sides.

  19. Alex says:

We hit our limit at around 425… now 10 mins later or something and it is climbing to 1000

  20. Dizzy says:

I find it weird that every time Empress Annde gets one vote, Katey Springle Lempka gets one too. It’s like someone is playing around with the numbers.

  21. Dizzy says:

Seriously though, how are the votes going up that quickly? Someone’s got to be cheating. :/

  22. Alex says:

    the votes… they’ve stopped…

  23. Alex says:

oh nevermind. Well… Le sigh. Yay internet… All that hard work getting people to get in here and vote wasted. At least kim jong un isn’t winning.

  24. Katey Springle Lempka says:

Go home, voting app, you’re drunk.
    :D :D :D

  25. Alex says:

    lololololololololololololol… that’s the best.

  26. TRRRROOOOLLLLLLS IN THE DUNGEON!

    thought you ought to know.

  27. Alex says:

    So, uh, what happens now?

  28. Katey Springle Lempka says:

I think we shove a wand up their noses?

  29. Dizzy says:

Just wondering…how did Katey’s vote total just jump by 150 votes between now and five minutes ago when I last checked?

  30. The Empire's Top Trollhunter says:

Nasty infestation you got here. May just have to burn everything down to the ground to be rid of them.
