Try asking for books by Mark Hodder, Cherie Priest, Mike Resnick, James Blaylock, Ian Macleod, George Mann, S.M. Peters and Scott Westerfield. They are all great authors.

If you want to get vintage then try: Tim Powers and Michael Moorcock.

You might also want to pick up The Steampunk Bible, an introductory guide to all things Steampunk. It also has great photos.

I also just finished reading Ekatarina Sedia’s new book and Felix Gilman’s weird western, The Half-Made World.

I would like to second Felix Gilman’s The Half-Made World. For dark New York Victoriana with a steampunk twist I would suggest the Catastrophone Orchestra book. It just came out.

Don’t leave out the comics medium. That is a creative and artistic bend in literature. Take “Lady Mechanika”, for instance.

Concept is a post apocalyptic futuristic world
where all natural resources have been exhausted and mankind resorts to the production of steam as a new energy source.
