Nominations Now Open for 2011 Steampunk.Com Awards
I’m pleased to announce that nominations are now open for the second (sort of) annual(ish) Steampunk.com awards. Okay, last year we only did “Book of the Year” and we did it in December instead of January, but think of it as a trial run. This year is the real deal.
We have 11 categories, ranging from novel to video to game. You can make one nomination per category, so choose wisely. All nominations must be in by the end of the day on Friday, January 20, 2012. The top 5 nominees will make the final ballot with voting starting on the 23rd.

Suggestions for 2011 Steampunk.com Award Categories
It’s getting late in the year, so it’s time to revisit the Steampunk.com awards… in particular what categories we want this year.
Last year, we just did “Book of the Year” which generated a lot of nominations and votes and fun. Even so, it certainly leaves out a lot of the steampunk, er, stuff. For example: short stories, short films, graphic novels/comics/web comics, games, websites, music, 2D art, 3D art.
We have had some suggestions already:

The 2011 Steampunk.com Awards
Having just concluded the 2010 Book of the Year balloting, I am already looking towards next year where I hope to have a more comprehensive set of awards, tentatively nicknamed the “Copper Cogs.” While this year’s nomination and voting process ran fairly smoothly, there are definite areas for improvement next year. I’ll list some of those here, but I am all ears for other suggestions. Along about October, I will probably ask again, but please make suggestions now if you have some.

Steampunk Book of the Year: Boneshaker by Cherie Priest
I am pleased to announce that Steampunk.com’s 2010 Book of the Year is Boneshaker by Cherie Priest.
There was no restriction on publication date, so Boneshaker was eligible to win despite being published in 2009. There was also no restriction on author’s having more than one book on the ballot and two books by Cherie Priest earned places on the final ballot. Over 200 ballots were received during the week-log voting period.
The final rankings were:
- Boneshaker by Cherie Priest
- Dreadnought by Cherie Priest
- Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld
- Thomas Riley by Nick Valentino
- The Morrow Stone by Ren Cummins
Congratulations to all of the nominees and thank you to everyone who participated in selecting the book of the year.
