Abaddon Books’ Summer of Steampunk

Abaddon Books is declaring the next two weeks The Summer of Steampunk in honor of their Pax Brittania series of novels, the world’s longest-running series of Steampunk novels.

Starting today, they’re launching the promotion that’ll mark a new direction in the series at the dedicated Pax Britannia Facebook page. Michael Molcher, the PR coordinator, also mentioned that “the event will culminate in a major announcement about a surprising new book which throws away the rulebook of how genre publishing works.”

If you haven’t heard of Pax Brittania, it’s a series of stories set in the late 20th Century where Queen Victoria is kept alive by Steampunk technology and the British Empire never fell. With characters like Jonathan Green’s swashbuckling agent of the Empire, Ulysses Quicksilver, and Al Ewing’s ultra-violent El Sombra, Pax Brittannia is sure to excite Steampunk readers.

Happy International Steampunk Day 2011!

June 14th is H. G. Wells’ birthday and in his honor it is also International Steampunk Day (and has been for several years). This is a day to celebrate steampunk even more than normal and to share all the steampunky goodness with the uninitiated (or even those who were initiated but for whom it didn’t take the first time).

So, let’s make this post a place where everyone can share whatever they are doing or reading or thinking or loving that is steampunk. Dressing up for the day? Leave a link to a pic! Hosting something cool on your blog? Leave a link to that! If you are part of an organization or are running an upcoming event or working on a book or a costume or a piece of art or… anything! Leave a link and a description. I’ll do my best (day job notwithstanding) to be Johnny-on-the-Spot with comment moderation, so everything gets updated in a timely manner. Tweet me the links and I’ll retweet ‘em. Post them on the Facebook wall and I’ll make sure they don’t get blocked.

Oh, and be sure to let other people know so they can share their steampunkish fun and love as well.

Emerald City Steampunk Expo Postponed

It was announced tonight on their Facebook page and on their website, the Emerald City Steampunk Expo is being postponed until 2011, due to “a combination of medical and technical issues.”

There will still be a “Steampunk Minicon” on November 13th:

A full day of panels, vendors, performers, demonstrations and events at The Cowtown Museums Victorian Village. The cost to the general public will only be $10 at the door for the day. We are in the process of getting Local Ticket Outlets also.

Anyone who has already purchased passes to The Emerald City Steampunk Expo have been sent an e-mail and will not only be receiving special rates to the Expo in 2011, but also free admittance to the Cowtown event on Saturday, Nov. 13th, 2010.

Here’s hoping the issues, especially the medical ones, resolve themselves positively. If I get any more information, I’ll pass it on.

And, as with any event, if anyone going to the Minicon would like to share pictures and/or reports, I’ll be happy to post them.
